Golden Isles Dance, Gymnastics, and Sports Options for Kids
Once your kids get to an age where you need to start signing them up for extracurriculars, it’s a whole different ball game (literally). Making sure you don’t miss registration, when it’s your turn to bring the snacks, and ensuring they’re not late to a game (meanwhile you're on the opposite side of town dropping your other kid off at their activity). Whew.
To make things just a little easier, we’ve rounded up your options for Golden Isles dance, gymnastics, martial arts, and sports. Solidarity to all the other parents in this busy season of life (which we’re certain we’ll miss one day).

Glynn County Parks and Recreation
The Glynn County Recreation and Parks Department provides year-round recreational activities for all ages. This is where you’ll sign your kids up for various sports, including soccer, basketball, t-ball, baseball, etc. We’ve registered our kids for several of these sports, and we can attest they always have fun. What makes it even better is that it’s very affordable (note, they always need volunteer coaches). A few tips:
- Subscribe to their emails to get notified when a sport’s registration is open.
- Follow them on Facebook to get updates on news, events, activities, and weather-related cancellations.

Jekyll Island Soccer
The Southern Soccer Academy on Jekyll Island offers recreational soccer for ages 4-14 as well as Club Soccer programs.
- Practices are held at Howard Coffin Park and Epworth by the Sea.
- Costs typically run $50-$140 for the recreational programs. Financial aid opportunities are available.
- Uniforms are purchased separately through the website.

Golden Isles Dance Classes
Jill Stanford Dance Center
St. Simons Island and Brunswick
- Classes are offered in ballet, tap, jazz, lyrical, hip hop, contemporary, and adult dance classes.
- Weekly instruction is provided from August through May, with an annual performance in May.
- They hold a beloved Grinch Who Stole Christmas show in December.

- Classes offered include preschool, tap, jazz, musical theatre, gymnastics, ballet, hip-hop, contemporary, and fitness classes. Their classes not only focus on dance but also on etiquette and creating new friendships.

Mini Motions

Mini Motions offers on-site dance and baton classes at various schools and preschools in the Golden Isles.
- Classes include Creative Movement for ages 2+, Ballet/Tap, Hip Hop/Tumbling, Baton, and after-school clubs.

- They offer adult pop-up classes for ages 16+.

- Golden Isles Gymnastics has a fantastic facility with professional gymnastics equipment, a cheer floor, a preschool area, and bounce houses.
- They offer the highest quality gymnastics classes, from preschool and recreation classes to their national award-winning competitive team. Classes range from beginner to advanced so everyone can participate in the fun. Gymnastics is a year-round sport so you can join anytime.

- They offer an Elite Allstar Cheer program for ages 6-15 and tumbling classes for all ages and skill levels.
- Summer camps and after-school programs are offered.
- You can host your child’s birthday party where kids will enjoy free play. They have a speaker to play music, a tumble track, and a spring floor strip that connects to our inflatable foam pit. They have lots of tumble mats and space for running and playing.

- They teach family-friendly traditional Japanese karate out of the Golden Isles YMCA.
ADVANCE! Martial Arts
Brunswick
- ADVANCE! Martial Arts offers training in the traditional art of Tang Soo Do, a Korean self-defense method similar to Japanese Karate.
- Classes are available for children and adults, with separate classes for different ages and experience levels.
- The school offers a supplementary after-school program for younger students, who train daily in martial arts and receive help with school work. Transportation is provided from many of the local elementary and middle schools.
