Indoor Things to do in the Golden Isles

In the South, summer can get HOT (and let's be real - the heat can happen year-round). If it's too hot to be outside, don't suffer! There are plenty of indoor things to do in the Golden Isles that include air conditioning. These indoor activities on St. Simons Island, Brunswick, and Jekyll Island will save you from the heat while also getting you and the kids out of the house.

A family entertainment center featuring a bowling alley, laser tag, an arcade, event space, pool tables, and a bar and grill.

Strike Zone in Brunswick has a bowling alley, a black-light 3D mini-golf course, an arcade, and a VR (virtual reality zone).  Psst… There's also a bar that serves adult beverages.

Between the months of March and October, Strike Zone participates in the Kids Bowl Free program, providing 2 FREE games of bowling each day to kids aged 2-15, giving them a safe, secure, climate-controlled (hello heat waves), and fun way to spend their time away from school. Sign up here.

Enjoy over 88 Pinball Machines, over 40 classic arcade games, three huge bounce houses, air hockey, and more. This would be a great way to spend a few hours indoors.

The library is one of our go-to indoor activities.  It’s free, and the kids enjoy picking out library books every week.  There are two libraries in the Golden Isles: one in Brunswick and one on St. Simons Island.

The St. Simons library is near the water, and they have several rocking chairs outside where you can sit and enjoy the view. It’s also next to Neptune Park, so we head to the playground after picking out our books.

The Brunswick library is located in downtown Brunswick and is within walking distance of many shops and restaurants.

View the calendar to see when they hold weekly story times for children.

Brunswick Adventures is a trampoline park with several bounce houses for younger kids. It’s indoors, air-conditioned, and will wear your kids out so they sleep well that night.

  • a large maze
  • three jumpers with a basketball goal

Activities for ALL ages:

  • There is a large main trampoline area
  • a dodgeball-specific area
  • two basketball lanes
  • jousting pit

*Make note that trampoline socks are required. They accept socks from other trampoline parks, but it’s $2.50 a pair if you need them.

**Be sure to check their hours before making the drive. When this was written, they were closed on Mondays and Tuesdays, but that may change during the summer.

Axe throwing like no other! Locally owned and operated with the latest technology in targets.

Throwers can be any age at which they can safely throw the axe, but we wouldn’t recommend a group of six to eight-year-olds. If you had one or two in the group with parents, that might be okay (typically, a nine to ten-year-old is pretty good with throwing).

If it's too hot out and your kids need to burn off energy, head to Golden Isles Gymnastics for their open play. Your kids will be TIRED when they leave between the trampolines, bounce houses, huge foam pits, and obstacle courses. Check the site for open play hours before you head over.

The mission of VSM is to introduce youth and young adults to a hope-filled lifestyle alternative. The Hub will be a central location for VSM's various programs and ministries. The building features an indoor skate park, a few shaping bays for shaping surfboards, a café, and a lounge.

The ministry also offers a few programs for school kids and young adults, like SOFI, — the School for Foundation & Identity, which teaches scripture and how to follow it in daily life — and VSM’s annual surf camp, in which the group takes kids to nearby beaches to teach them to surf. You can read more about VSM Ministries and The Hub here.

Drop into Makers Market in downtown Brunswick and browse their Make Art Menu which includes several arts and craft options that would be fun for the whole family. You can also explore their workshop schedule here.
