Little St. Simons Island Marsh and Birds

Accessible only by boat from St. Simons Island, Little St. Simons Island is something out of a storybook. Seven miles of uninhabited beaches meet moss-draped live oaks, winding tidal creeks, and beautiful marshes.

Virtually untouched for centuries, it is a privately owned barrier island on the Georgia coast. One of the least developed of the Golden Isles, the island covers an area of 11,000 acres. Aside from the 20-acre Little St. Simons Lodge compound and staff housing, the remainder of the island is undeveloped and considered among the state’s highest-priority coastal conservation areas.

The historic ecolodge hosts no more than 32 guests and is ideal for individuals, groups, families, reunions, retreats, and business meetings. A highly awarded, all-inclusive resort, guests enjoy gracious accommodations, regional cuisine, and naturalist-led excursions offered twice daily, including;

  • Fishing
  • Kayaking
  • Hiking
  • Birding
  • Seine netting
  • Beachcombing
  • Truck-based excursions

The island is only accessible via ferry, which departs from the north end of St. Simons Island at the Hampton River Marina. To board the ferry, you must be a guest of the Lodge or have a reservation for a guided day trip.
